6.4 Topsoiling
(1) Topsoil will be segregated and stockpiled for use in reclamation. If topsoil stockpiles
remain for over 1 growing season, they will be seeded with 6#/A Western Wheatgrass to preserve the
integrity of the topsoil. No acid or toxic material will be involved with this operation.
(2) There is no woody vegetation on the affected area to be put to a beneficial use.
(3) Topsoil stockpiles will be on the pit perimeters and will not be disturbed by the ongoing
mining operation. The Cascajo soils have a very cobbly topsoil and are not subject to erosion.
(4) Topsoil will not be rehandled until it is replaced on the regraded, disturbed areas in
reclamation.
(5) The replaced topsoil will be stabilized by chiseling the backslopes areas before
replacement. There will be no slippage, since all material in reclamation will be quite cobbly. There
are no heavy textured spoil surfaces.
(6) The entire area is composed of Cascajo cobbly soils, which sustains an adequate grass
cover vegetation. There are no other, more suitable materials on site for sustaining veg- etafion.
(7) Growing media (topsoil) will be replaced in an even a manner as possible. iJrO# available
P & N is proposed as the fertilizer as per S.C.S. recommendations in this and similaz areas.
(8) There will be no vegetative piles to be removed or utilized in reclamation.
6.5 Revegetation
(1) The proposed revegetation seed mix has been shown to establish a diverse, effective and
long-lasting vegetative cover for similar operation in the area. It has proven to be capable of self-
regeneration without continued dependence on irrigation or fertilizer. It will be equal or superior to the
natural vegetation of the surrounding areas.
(2) Forest planting is not the landowner's choice of reclamation. Rangeland has been chosen, to
be consistent with surrounding areas. '
(3) The applicant/owner's choice of reclamation is range- land. Slopes will be commensurate
with this and the 3H:1 V backslopes will not be too steep to be traversed by live- stock. The.area will
be seeded using an appropriate drill.
