2.3 FERTILIZER <br />Provide granular, pelleted or liquid commercial fertilizer having an 11-46-0 <br />or 18-46-0 yield, of which 50 percent of the nitrogen is in slow release <br />form. <br />2.4 MULCH <br />Mulch may be natural, consisting of slash, brush, manure and vegetation <br />previously chipped and stockpiled; and/or clean straw, free from noxious <br />weed seed, mold, and other harmful elements; or wood cellulose fiber. A <br />tackifier shall be used with the mulch to bind the material. <br />2.5 EROSION CONTROL MATS (BLANKETS) <br />2.5.1 REGULAR EXCELSIOR BLANKET <br />Regular grade excelsior blanket shall be equivalent to XCEL regular <br />grade, with 80 percent curled wood fibers greater than 6 inches <br />long and a top layer of netting composed photo degradable plastic. <br />2.5.2 HEAVY DUTY EXCELSIOR BLANKET <br />Superior grade excelsior blanket equivalent to XCEL superior grade <br />excelsior, with at least 80 percent curled wood fibers greater than <br />6 inches long and top and bottom netting composed of photo <br />degradable plastic. <br />2.5.3 JUTE BLANKETS <br />Heavy duty untreated jute blanket with top and bottom netting <br />composed of photodegradable plastic. <br />3 INSTALLATION <br />3.7 DISTURBED AREAS TO BE REVEGETATED <br />All areas disturbed by the construction process that are not a roadway <br />surface or designated for cover with road base surfacing or riprap shall be <br />seeded and fertilized to provide ground cover for erosion control. This <br />includes the sides and bottom of the barge channel. <br />3.2 TOPSOIL <br />All areas disturbed by the construction process that are not a roadway <br />surface or designated for cover with road base surfacing or riprap shall be <br />covered with a minimum 4-inch thick layer of topsoil. An exception to this <br />is that no topsoil will be required on the sides and bottom of the barge <br />channel.
