SPECIFICATION E PRECAST CONCRETE STRUCTURES 1 2 SCOPE The work to be performed in accordance with this specification consists of furnishing all materials, equipment, and supplies, and providing all labor and supervision in connection with the placement of precast concrete sections of structures, manholes, vaults, and covers as shown on the Drawings. APPLICABLE SPECIFICATIONS The latest issue or revision of the following Standards and Specifications shall apply to the fabrication of the precast concrete structures. Where more than one code or standard applies to portions of the fabrication, or where local codes or standards have been adopted, the more stringent standard shall govern. All of the standards and specifications of Specification B -Concrete shall govern as they apply to the casting and fabrication of precast assemblies. In addition, the following standards also shall apply. 2.1 ASTM STANDARDS ASTM C 150- ASTMC318- ASTM C 857 - ASTM C 858- ASTM C 822 - 3 GENERAL Standard Specification for Portland Cement Specification for Design of Concrete using Ultimate Strength Methods. Recommended Practice for Minimum Structural Design Loading for Underground Precast Concrete Utility Structures. Specification for Underground Precast Concrete Utility Structures. Standard Definitions of Terms Relating to Concrete Pipe and Related Products 3.1 The Drawings generally show which concrete assemblies are to be precast construction. These assemblies can be either precast construction or cast- in-place construction. The selection of method is at Contractor's option. If cast-in-place construction is chosen, the provisions of Specification B - Concrete, shall apply and the structure must be designed to an equivalent strength as the specified precast structure. If precast construction is the selected method, the provisions of Specification B -Concrete, as well as this Specification E for precast construction apply. SPEC. E -PRECAST CONCRETE PAGE 1
