5.3 VALVES <br />5.3.1 Valves shall be installed in strict conformance to the <br />manufacturer's recommendations and installation instructions. <br />5.5 POLYETHYLENE CULVERT PIPE <br />5.5.7 The pipe designated on the Drawings as ADS N-12 Culvert Pipe <br />shall be installed in strict conformance with the manufacturer's <br />recommendations and installation instructions. <br />6 QUALITY ASSURANCE AND TESTING <br />6.1 QUALIFICATION <br />6.1.1 All fusion joints made on the polyethylene pipeline shall be made by <br />a trained technician qualified by the pipe manufacturer or other <br />appropriate agency for joining polyethylene pipe. Proof of <br />technician qualification shall be submitted to the Engineer before <br />beginning any pipeline fusing. <br />6.2 DATA LOGGING <br />6.2.1 The Contractor shall data log all HDPE fusion joints made. The data <br />logs shall include the date, machine used, joint number, pipe size <br />and SDR, and recommended and actual fusion pressures and <br />temperatures, at a minimum. The data log reports shall be down <br />loaded and a hard copy provided to the Engineer every day that <br />HDPE joints are fused. Any joints that are deemed unsatisfactory <br />by the Engineer shall be removed and remade at the Contractor's <br />expense. <br />6.3 BENT STRAP TEST <br />6.3.1 The Contractor shall perform a Bent Strap Test on a strip sample <br />from the first fusion joint of each day that pipe fusion is to be <br />performed, or as otherwise requested by the Engineer. The Bent <br />Strap Test shall be performed as described in PPI Handbook of <br />Polyethylene Pipe -Inspections, Test, and Safety Considerations, or <br />as recommended by the manufacturer and approved by the <br />Engineer.
