5.2.3 The Contractor shall prepare and suhmit to the Engineer a written <br />procedure for butt fusion of the polyethylene pipe and fittings. The <br />procedure shall include a detailed description of the procedure (time <br />periods, fusion temperatures, and pressures) as well as a <br />description of qualified personnel and proposed equipment to be <br />used. The procedure will also include proposed QA/QC procedures. <br />The procedure shall be qualified by the pipe and fitting <br />manufacturer and submitted to the Engineer for approval. <br />5.2.4 The pipe shall be handled, inspected, and stored by the Contractor <br />according to the recommendations in the PPI Handbook of <br />Polyethylene Pipe -Inspections, Test, and Satety Considerations. <br />5.2.5 The polyethylene pipe may be cold bent to radius' not less than the <br />following, for alignment of the pipe without the use of fittings. <br />Exceptions to these limitations must be approved by the Engineer. <br />No Flange or Fitting With Flange or Fitting <br />Pipe Minimum Bend Minimum Bend <br />Size (inl Radius Iftl Radius Iftl <br />26 65 220 <br />5.2.6 Joints between plain ends of polyethylene pipe shall be made by <br />butt fusion when possible. Polyethylene flange adapters may be <br />used as required to install the pipeline. <br />5.2,7 Joints made using flange adapters and backing rings shall include a <br />gasket. Special care should be exercised to ensure that the gasket <br />is properly installed prior to tightening bolts. Flange bolts shall be <br />tightened to the proper torque 1150 ft-Ibs for 26-inch flanges) using <br />an alternating pattern. The flange bolts shall be tightened to the <br />proper torque at least three times, with at least a 6-hour hold <br />period between each sequence, before the flange is buried or <br />otherwise made inaccessible. Flange bolts/studs shall have <br />appropriate washers on both ends of the bolt/stud. <br />5.2 METAL PIPE AND FITTINGS <br />5.2.7 Metal pipe shall be installed in strict accordance with the applicable <br />industry standards and specifications. <br />5.2.2 Welded fittings and pipe assemblies shall be fabricated in accor- <br />dance with the procedures of AWWA C206. <br />5.2.3 Flange and fitting bolt holes shall straddle the vertical centerline of <br />the pipe. <br />SPEC.
