5.1.2.3 Grade the bottom of the trench and prepare the <br />foundation as described in Specification A - <br />Earthwork. Before laying each section of pipe, <br />check the grade and correct any irregularities found. <br />The trench bottom shall form a uniform bearing and <br />support for the pipe. <br />5.1.2.4 At the location of each joint, dig joint holes in the <br />bottom of the trench and at the sides to permit <br />completion and visual inspection of the entire joint. <br />5.1.2.5 All pipe shall be bedded in embedment material <br />according to the procedures set forth in Specifica- <br />tion A -Earthwork. Minimum cover over all pipes <br />shall be as noted on the Drawings. <br />5.1.2.6 Concrete wall pipe penetrations shall be made as <br />shown on the Drawings. <br />5.1.2.7 Keep the trench in a dewatered condition during <br />pipe laying. <br />5.1.2.8 When pipe laying is not in progress, including during <br />the noon hours, close the open ends of the pipe. Do <br />not permit trench water, animals, or foreign objects <br />to enter the pipe. <br />5.1.2.9 Install the pipe to maintain a minimum separation <br />between the Barge pipeline and other existing pipes <br />of 6-inches, or as otherwise specified on the <br />drawings. <br />5.2 POLYETHYLENE PIPE <br />5.2,1 All polyethylene pipe shall be installed in strict conformance with <br />the manufacturer's recommendation, and in accordance with <br />ASTM D2774 and PPI Handbook of Polyethylene Pipe - <br />Underground Installation of Polyethylene Pipe. <br />5.2.2 The procedures for butt fusion of PE3408 polyethylene pipe and <br />fittings shall be in strict conformance with the manufacturer <br />recommendations, and in general conformance with ASTM D2657 <br />and PPI Handbook of Polyethylene Pipe -Chapter 6 -Polyethylene <br />Joining Procedures. <br />SPEC.
