other sections of these Specifications and required to be in their final position at
time concrete is placed shall be properly located, accurately positioned, built into
construction, and maintained securely in place.
14.1 WALL PENETRATIONS, WATERSTOP
14.1.1 WALL SLEEVE
When specified on the Drawings, a properly sized corrosion
resistant wall sleeve shall be used for wall penetrations. After
installation of the penetrating pipe, the annulus between the sleeve
and the pipe shall be sealed with mastic or grout, as specified on
the Drawings.
14.1.2 WATERSTOP
When specified on the Drawings, concrete wall penetrations in both
precast and cast-in-place structures shall include ADEKA MC-
2010M waterstop. The surface of the pipe shall be cleaned and
coated with a layer of ADEKA 3M-2141 Bonding Agent and
allowed to set for 15 minutes. A strip of ADEKA Ultra Seal MC-
2010M shall be wrapped around the pipe at the center of the wall
with a minimum end overlap of 2-inches. Concrete can then be
poured around the penetration and waterstop.
Smooth, cast-in penetrations shall be sealed with ADEKA MC-
2005T or MC-2010M as described above. For rough sections of
concrete a 1/4-inch by 3/4-inch bead shall be applied onto the
concrete at the center of the wall.
15 TESTING OF CONCRETE
The following testing may be performed by the Engineer on work performed under
this specification as directed and at the expense of the Owner.
15.1 STRENGTH TESTS
During the course of construction, tests shall be conducted at a certified
independent testing facility to determine whether the concrete, as being
produced, complies with the standards of quality specified in this specifica-
tion. The Contractor is not relieved of the responsibility of proper placing
and curing even though test reports indicate adequate strengths.
15.1.1 PREPARATION OF TEST SPECIMENS
The concrete for test specimens will be sampled in accor-
dance with ASTM C 172. The specimen will be cast and
cured in accordance with ASTM C 31 and will be tested in
accordance with ASTM C 39. Each test specimen will be
tagged with the location of the sampled batch in the struc-
ture, mix proportions or number, slump, and the type and
brand of cement.
SPEC B -CONCRETE
PAGE 20
