sound concrete is exposed and filled with concrete. The <br />color shall match that of the structure. <br />12.1.3 Spalled and pitted areas caused by concrete sticking to the <br />forms during removal shall be chipped back to obtain a <br />good mechanical bond, undercut at the edges, and repaired <br />with mortar matching the color of the concrete. <br />12.1.4 Throughout the operations of repairing defects and <br />finishing, the surface shall not be allowed to become dry <br />nor shall the underlying concrete be damaged by the <br />operations. <br />12.2 FLOATING <br />12.2.1 Floating shall be accomplisfied with either wood, cork, or <br />metal floats. After the concrete has been properly placed, <br />vibrated, and roughly leveled it shall be screeded to the <br />proper elevation. All coarse aggregate shall be tamped <br />below the surface. After screeding and tamping, the <br />surface shall be made uniform by means of floats operated <br />with a circular motion. Detailed recommendations are <br />provided in ACI 302.1 R. <br />f 2.2.2 After floating, the surface shall be tested for uniformity by <br />use of a straight edge. Variations from desired finished <br />elevations shall not exceed one-quarter-inch (Y<'I in ten feet <br />(10') where level or nearly level surfaces are required. <br />12.2.3 Excessive floating shall be avoided. <br />12.2.4 Use of neat cement to absorb excessive surface water is <br />prohibited. <br />12.3 PROTECTION OF SURFACES <br />The Contractor shall be held responsible for the complete protection of all <br />finished concrete surfaces from such damage as chipping, nicking, and <br />scratching. <br />13 CONCRETE GROUT <br />Concrete grout shall be concrete that meets all the requirements of this <br />specification except that all aggregate shall pass the three-eighth inch (3/8") sieve. <br />Only fine aggregate shall 6e used in the mix design, <br />14 EMBEDDED ITEMS <br />Inserts, sleeves, embedded items: All items specified as furnished under this and <br />SPEC B -CONCRETE <br />PAGE 19 <br />
