sound concrete is exposed and filled with concrete. The
color shall match that of the structure.
12.1.3 Spalled and pitted areas caused by concrete sticking to the
forms during removal shall be chipped back to obtain a
good mechanical bond, undercut at the edges, and repaired
with mortar matching the color of the concrete.
12.1.4 Throughout the operations of repairing defects and
finishing, the surface shall not be allowed to become dry
nor shall the underlying concrete be damaged by the
operations.
12.2 FLOATING
12.2.1 Floating shall be accomplisfied with either wood, cork, or
metal floats. After the concrete has been properly placed,
vibrated, and roughly leveled it shall be screeded to the
proper elevation. All coarse aggregate shall be tamped
below the surface. After screeding and tamping, the
surface shall be made uniform by means of floats operated
with a circular motion. Detailed recommendations are
provided in ACI 302.1 R.
f 2.2.2 After floating, the surface shall be tested for uniformity by
use of a straight edge. Variations from desired finished
elevations shall not exceed one-quarter-inch (Y<'I in ten feet
(10') where level or nearly level surfaces are required.
12.2.3 Excessive floating shall be avoided.
12.2.4 Use of neat cement to absorb excessive surface water is
prohibited.
12.3 PROTECTION OF SURFACES
The Contractor shall be held responsible for the complete protection of all
finished concrete surfaces from such damage as chipping, nicking, and
scratching.
13 CONCRETE GROUT
Concrete grout shall be concrete that meets all the requirements of this
specification except that all aggregate shall pass the three-eighth inch (3/8") sieve.
Only fine aggregate shall 6e used in the mix design,
14 EMBEDDED ITEMS
Inserts, sleeves, embedded items: All items specified as furnished under this and
SPEC B -CONCRETE
PAGE 19
