Recommended <br />Footings, Caissons, Foundation Walls 3 1 2 <br />Slabs, Walls, Columns 4 1 3 <br />15.3 TESTS FOR ENTRAINED AIR <br />The entrained air content of fresh concrete will be determined in <br />accordance with ASTM C 138, C 173 or C 231. <br />16 ENFORCEMENT OF STRENGTH REQUIREMENTS <br />16.1 DEFINITION OF FAILURE <br />16.1.1 CAST SPECIMENS <br />The test specimens cast in the field will be considered to <br />have failed the strength requirements when the average of <br />all the strength tests or the average of any five (5) consecu- <br />tive strength tests is less than the specified strength or <br />when more than one (11 test in ten (101 has an average <br />value less than ninety percent (90%) of the specified <br />strength. A strength test will be the average strength of at <br />least two (21 companion cylinders. <br />16.1.2 CORED SPECIMENS <br />The concrete represented by cored specimens will be <br />considered to have failed the strength requirements when <br />the average strength of three (31 specimens falls below <br />eighty-five percent (85%) of the specified strength, or when <br />any core falls below seventy-five percent (75%) of the <br />specified strength. <br />SPEC B -CONCRETE <br />PAGE 21 <br />
