3. Reveeetation Plan
Prior to seeding, the topsoil will be scarified or plowed to relieve any compaction during
placement.
The seed mix to be applied to the reclaimed Vagneur Pit has been developed in cooperation with
Pitkin County, CSU Extension and MRCS. The dry rangeland seed mix will be applied to the
slopes of the pit as well as the flat azeas on the perimeter of the pit to include the pit floor. This
seed mix has been developed based on a Bost-mining use of dry rangeland. It will be more than
adequate to control erosion for the site and provide good cover. Once sufficient ground cover is
established sage seeds will be planted along the slopes as per the seed plan.
The species that make up the revegetation seed mix are as follows:
RECLAMA TION SEED MIX
MIXTURE SEED SEED
COMMON NAME LATIN NAME (BY PLS/ACRE PLS/ACRE
WEIGHT DRILL BROADCAST
Western Agropyron smithii 17 5 10
Wheat rass
Thickspike Agropyron 17 5 10
Wheat rass das stach um
Slender Wheat Elymus 17 5 10
trach caulus
Green Needle rass Sti a viridula 13 3.75 7.5
Indian Ricegrass Oryzopsis 9 2.5 5
h menoides
Mountain Brome Bromus 13 3.75 7.5
mar inatus
Rabbitbrush Chrysothamnus 7 2 4
nauseosus
Serviceberry Amelanchier 7 2 4
alnifolia
TOTAL 100 29 58
a.
