will primarily involve only togsoiling, seeding and mulching. Therefore, although the expansion
area will expose more disturbed area, its cost of reclamation is less than the current condition.
Backfilling will be done by scrapers or loaders and trucks. Grading will be done by dozers and
scrapers which will compact and stabilize the overburden material. To insure stability of the
slopes, material will be placed in 12 inch lifts and compacted to a minimum density of 90 percent
(standazd proctor, ASTM D-698).
As described in the mining plan, reclamation in the expansion area will occur concurrently with
mining. Topsoil stripped from previous yeazs and the current yeaz will either be stockpiled or
preferably be used to reclaim the slopes which are mined at a 3H:1 V slope immediately
following mining. By doing this, the distance that the topsoil and overburden will have to be
transported as well as the amount of material which will have to be rehandled will be minimized.
Additionally, the total acreage which is unreclaimed will be minimized, which will make the
reclamation bond for the Vagneur Pit smaller. The reclamation timetable is shown below in
Section 2. Due to the mining plan, very limited reclamation will occur during the initial half of
the expansion azea mine life. The approximate yearly reclamation boundaries can be seen on
Map F-1.
Since most of the expansion pit area will be mined at a 3H:1 V slope, few slopes in the azea will
have to be backfilled to a 3H:1 V slope. Due to the thickness of the topsoil and overburden,
which is approximately 15.0 feet on the top of the hill, the amount of material which is needed to
reclaim the slopes is less than the amount of overburden and topsoil which was present prior to
mining. At least one foot of topsoil will be placed on al] slopes and on the entire bottom of the
pit, as has been required prior to the Amendment of 2007.
2. Reclamation Timetable
The timetable for reclamation will be the same as the timetable for mining since reclamation and
mining will happen concurrently throughout the life of the mine. As shown in the table below,
the total time required to complete all reclamation will be 16 years.
Yagneur Pit June 07 E-2
