crushing operation to control dust. The water source is from an existing permitted well located
on the north edge of the mining area and is pumped to an existing pond and 10,000 gallon
holding tank located neaz the asphalt production area. See Map C-2 for the location.
FILL STOCKPILE AREA - A single location has been identified within the mining azea for the
stockpiling of inert fill which is brought to the facility from outside azeas. The location of this
pile will change as mining progresses across the extraction azea and the material is used for
sloping of the excavated mined areas during the reclamation process. Topsoil is segregated from
other soil and stored adjacent to the main stockpile. To date approximately 700,000 cubic yazds
of material is stockpiled, primarily on the north edge of the mined out pit. Material is trucked to
the facility on a regular basis thought out the year.
ASPHALT AND CONCRETE RECYCLE STOCKPILE AREA - An azea separate from the
other stockpiles on the site has been established for the stockpiling of asphalt and concrete
rubble. This material is brought to the mining area from outside sources and is crushed and
stockpiled near the product stockpile azea and then reused. This activity was requested during
the local land use approval process as part of a community effort to increase the life span of the
local landfill. The stockpile azeas aze relocated as mining progress across the mining area.
ASPHALT PRODUCTION - A portable asphalt plant has been erected on the site. Material
crushed on site is used for asphalt production. Maximum production for the portable plant is
2000 tons per day. In 1998 the plant which operated on the site during the prior yeazs was
replaced with a new "state of the art" plant. This new plant utilizes a "bag house" to capture any
fine particles of material from entering the atmosphere. The plant meets or exceeds all State and
Federal pollution requirements, and is inspected on a regular basis by corporate and
governmental authorities.
WASH PLANT - A portable wash plant maybe utilized at various times of the year to wash the
mined gravel for use in the concrete plant or asphalt plant. This plant will remain in the bottom
of the pit and will utilize water from the well that is north of the mining area.
Vagneur Pit June 07 D-8
