I 5.2.1.10 Diesel Fuel Storage Facilities near Open Pit <br />• Due to the standby status of the mine, these tanks are currently (May 2004) empty. <br />Description: The Diesel Fuel Storage Facility has three steel above ground storage tanks, each <br />of which is capable of holding 6,000 gallons. <br />Chemicals: Diesel fuel. <br />Location: Located at the ready line along haul road entering the open pit. <br />Spi11 Potential: Moderate. <br />Poteutial Volume Spilled: If an individual tank ruptured when full then up to 6,000 gallons of <br />diesel could be spilled. <br />Prevention and Control: A containment structure consists of an earthen berm capable of <br />holding 110% of the volume of the largest tank (6,000 gallons). <br />Countermeasures: If a spill of petroleum products occurs outside of containment, sorbent <br />booms may be used to dike and contain the spill. Soiled booms and contaminated soil should be <br />scooped up with a shovel and placed in a container for transport to and disposal in the Climax <br />• landfill with the approval of the Environmental Department. <br />Nearest Clean-up Equipment: Spill kits are located in the Moly Wazehouse and the Open Pit <br />Truck Shop. <br />Visual Inspections and Integrity Testing: During operations the petroleum storage tanks aze <br />visually checked on a weekly basis and they aze inspected monthly. Tanks are often empty <br />during the winter months. During standby status the tanks are checked monthly. <br />Reporting: In the event that waters of the State of Colorado are threatened by a spill from the <br />petroleum storage tanks at the Open Pit ready line, the notification procedure outlined in Sections <br />4.2, 4.3, and 4.4 will apply. Any spill from the petroleum storage tanks at the Open Pit ready line <br />should be documented on the "Spill Incident Report" form immediately (Appendix 1), and given <br />to the Environmental Department. <br />Conformance with Applicable Requirements: At the time of this writing (May 2004) the <br />Diesel Storage Facility neaz the open pit is in conformance with applicable regulatory <br />requirements. However, these tanks should be inspected and integrity tested prior to putting <br />them back into service. <br />36 <br />
