5.2.1.6 90-K Ore Bins Gear Oil Storage
• The 90-K Ore Bins are currently empty (May 2004); however, if the mine returns to operation,
this area will proba6/y be used for oi/ storage.
Chemicals: Gear Oil.
Description: There aze two 10,000-gallon steel tanks available for geaz oil storage. Only one is
in use at the present time. The stored gear oil is used to lubricate the crushers.
Location: South of and adjacent to the crushed ore stockpile.
Spill Potential: Low.
Potential Volume Spilled: 10,000 gallons if complete rupture when tank is full.
Prevention and Control: A concrete wall containment system, capable of holding 15,000+
gallons is in place should a tank rupture occur.
Countermeasures: In the unlikely event that containment fails, sorbent booms and diking
azound the base of the wall would contain the spilled oil. Soiled earth should be excavated and
disposed of in Climax' landfill with the approval of the Environmental Department. Small spills .
. inside containment walls could be absorbed with pillows and likewise disposed of.
Nearest Clean-up Equipment: Spill kits are located in the Moly Warehouse.
Visual Inspections and Integrity Testing: 90-K ore bins gear oil storage are checked daily
when the mill is operating; weekly when shut down. Inspections aze conducted monthly when
the tank contains product.
Reporting: All spills greater than 5 gallons should be documented on the "Spill Incident Report"
form immediately (Appendix 1), and given to Environmental Department.
Conformance with Applicable Requirements: Since the tank is empty and not in use [at the
time of this writing (May 2004)] the facility is in conformance with applicable regulatory
requirements.
32
