5.2.1.6 90-K Ore Bins Gear Oil Storage <br />• The 90-K Ore Bins are currently empty (May 2004); however, if the mine returns to operation, <br />this area will proba6/y be used for oi/ storage. <br />Chemicals: Gear Oil. <br />Description: There aze two 10,000-gallon steel tanks available for geaz oil storage. Only one is <br />in use at the present time. The stored gear oil is used to lubricate the crushers. <br />Location: South of and adjacent to the crushed ore stockpile. <br />Spill Potential: Low. <br />Potential Volume Spilled: 10,000 gallons if complete rupture when tank is full. <br />Prevention and Control: A concrete wall containment system, capable of holding 15,000+ <br />gallons is in place should a tank rupture occur. <br />Countermeasures: In the unlikely event that containment fails, sorbent booms and diking <br />azound the base of the wall would contain the spilled oil. Soiled earth should be excavated and <br />disposed of in Climax' landfill with the approval of the Environmental Department. Small spills . <br />. inside containment walls could be absorbed with pillows and likewise disposed of. <br />Nearest Clean-up Equipment: Spill kits are located in the Moly Warehouse. <br />Visual Inspections and Integrity Testing: 90-K ore bins gear oil storage are checked daily <br />when the mill is operating; weekly when shut down. Inspections aze conducted monthly when <br />the tank contains product. <br />Reporting: All spills greater than 5 gallons should be documented on the "Spill Incident Report" <br />form immediately (Appendix 1), and given to Environmental Department. <br />Conformance with Applicable Requirements: Since the tank is empty and not in use [at the <br />time of this writing (May 2004)] the facility is in conformance with applicable regulatory <br />requirements. <br />32 <br />
