5.2.1.4 Number 6 Crusher Lube Room
• Chemicals: #14 Standazd Lube, #15 Standazd Lube, antifreeze, cazburetor cleaner, solvents,
AMOLITH Grease No. 2, and dirty Lube oil. (At the time of inspection, April 10, 2003, a[[ tanks
were labeled "EMPTY". As long as Climax Mine is under care and maintenance, then this
facility will be considered inactive.)
Description: Various greases and oils used to lubricate machinery parts, geazs, and equipment in
the Number 6 Crusher Building.
Location: Ground floor, northwest corner of No. 6 Crusher Secondary.
Spill Potential: Moderate.
Potential Volume Spilled: Most likely one or two 55-gallon drums.
Prevention and Control: The Lube room has a concrete containment berm, floor drains, and a
sump. This containment system is capable of containing at least 860 gallons of spilled oil,
which, in tum, would be conveyed to Climax tailing. Containment has been improved by
blocking off sump drainage to the tailing system and blocking the door opening with a metal
berm to prevent escape of spilled product. Prevention of spills is best achieved by caze in filling
containers from stored drums, making sure all valves are shut off,
• Countermeasures: Viscous greases can be cleaned up with floor dry and a shovel. Non-viscous
greases (runny} and oils may have to be diked with sorbent booms or pillows. Soiled booms or
pillows may be disposed of in Climax' landfill with the approval of the Environmental
Department.
Nearest Clean-up Equipment: A spill kit is located in the Oil Room in the northeast corner of
the No. 6 Crusher Building.
Visual Inspections and Integrity Testing: The Lube room is checked daily during crusher
operation; weekly when not operating.
Reporting: All spills greater than 5 gallons should be documented on the "Spill Incident Report"
form immediately (Appendix 1) and given to the Environmental Department.
Conformance with Applicable Requirements: Since all tanks are empty and not in use (at the
time of this writing (May 2004)] the facility is in conformance with applicable regulatory
requirements.
30
