San Luis Froiect <br />F..3 DIVERSION CHANNELS <br />E.3.1 Diversion Channel <br />This Specification Section describes the work related to construction of the diversion ehanrtels. <br />Diversion channels outlined in the Drawings shall be constructed by excavation and fill <br />placement. Diversion channel depths and side slopes shall be as detailed in the Drawings. Fill <br />placement for diversion channel constnu:tion shall be conducted as approved by the Field <br />Engineer, <br />E3.1.1 Riprap <br />The ripmp shall be reasonably well graded and conform to the minimum brain size distribution <br />resented in Table 3. The riprap need not be compacted. 12iprap shall be placed to grade in a <br />manner that ensures uniform layers of riprap of the specified thickness. The lazger rock <br />fragments shall be uniformly distributed and the smaller rock fragments shall Serve to fill the <br />spaces between the lazger rock fragments in such a manner as will result in a wellFkeyed, densely <br />placed Iayer. Hand placing will be required only to the extent necessary to secure the results <br />specified above. Constructed features shall be constructed to within 0.1 foot of the lines, <br />dimensions, and elevations as designed and shown on the brawzngs. <br />E.3,2 Filter Fabric <br />Filter fabric shall have a m;n;mum weight of 8 ounces per square yazd. The filter fabric shall be <br />placed on the compacted channel subgrade prior to placement of riprap. The edges of the filter <br />fabric shall be keyed into the basks of the channel a m;n;mum of 6 inches a5 shown on the <br />Drawings. The filter fabric shall be laid with the upgradient piece overlapping tlhe downgradicnt <br />section by a minimum of one foot. <br />E.3,3 Gabions <br />The diversion channels with median riprap sizes lazger than 12 inches shall be 1vned with gabion <br />baskets and covered with grout. <br />E3,3.1 Gabion Baskets <br />Gabion baskets shall be supplied by Maccaferri Gabions, Tnc. or an approved equivalent. The <br />baskets shall be constructed of heavily galvanized, steel wire mesh of double mexagonal weave <br />with opening dimensions of approximately 3 by 4 inches. Dimension of the gabion baskets shall <br />be 3 feet wide, either 9 or 12 feet long, and either 18 inches or 12 inches thick depending on the <br />location. Segments 18 and 16 shall have 12-feet long and 18-inch thick baskets, and segments <br />12 and 5 shall have 9-feet long and 12-inch thick baskets. The gabions shall be filled with riprap <br />in the size range from 3 inches to 12 inches in diameter. <br />Banle Mountain Resources, (nc.
