Approximately 29 million tons of ore and overburden will be removed through
•; development of the ECME. This can be contrasted against a total of 540 million tons (180
million tons of ore and 360 million tons of overburden) anticipated to be moved through
completion of Amendment No. 8 as currently approved.
The ECME ore will be placed on the existing VLF, which has a permitted capacity of 262
million tons. The ECME ore is of higher grade than some ore currently in CC&V's ore
reserve and will replace lower grade ores currently anticipated for placement on the VLF,
thus improving project economics. The approximately 5.5 million tons of ore from the
ECME can be contrasted to the 262 million tons of ore to be developed from currently
approved mines for placement on the VLF.
The ECME will affect approximately 34 acres for the surface mine itself. This can be
contrasted to the affected acreage of 4,184 acres (ECME affected acreage is included in
the 4,184 acreage, since it is located within the currently approved affected acreage under
Amendment No. 8). The total affected azea of the ECME including ancillary facilities is
approximately 68.4 acres.
Environmental monitoring will remain essentially as approved under Amendment No. 8.
Two ground water monitoring wells (Vin 2A and Vin 2B) have been established neaz the
Permit Boundary, downgradient of the proposed ECME to replace two existing wells
(Vin lA and Vin 1B) that will be affected by the ECME. Vin lA and Vin 1B are
• proposed for removal upon obtaining 5 calendaz quarters of data from the new wells (Vin
2A and Vin 2B) established in Apri12004.
1.4 Other Modifications or Approvals
CC&V is also pursuing approval from Teller County for the proposed ECME under the
Teller County Land Use Regulations. The information prepazed for Teller County
includes:
• Economic Evaluation of the Cresson Project
• Visual Effects
• Traffic Review
• Noise Analysis
^ Lighting Impacts
Although not tied to the ECME, CC&V will be requesting modifications to its Air
Quality Permit issued by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment
("CDPHE"), Air Pollution Control Division ("APCD"). The modifications aze for
increases in throughput limits for mining of ore and overburden. There aze no proposed
changes to existing mining, crushing, or processing equipment to realize increased
throughput rates. Rather, the modifications in throughputs reflect efficiencies gained
through implementation of Amendment No. 8.
•
4
