PAGE 2
JANUARY 13, 1994
BARBARA PAVLIK

At four discrete spots on refuse pile #4, tests shall be performed to ensure that proper compaction
has been obtained per section 4.10.4(b), on all lifts constructed since mid-1992. The test procedure
is listed below.
1. Before beginning the testing, a determination shall be made that the test being
performed accurately represents the refuse pile waste bank. The test results from
the dozer pit will be compared with the results obtained by the Troxler moisture-
density gauge or equivalent to ascertain that the test results are not significantly
different.
2. A dozer and/or backhoe shall cut a sloping trench from the top of the waste bank to
the top of the lift where the last compaction test will be performed. The vertical cut
shall be approximately 10 to 15 feet deep depending upon the location. The depth
of the cut was determined by the number of lifts constructed since mid-1992.
3. During the cut made by the dozer and/or backhoe, care shall be Taken to ensure the
waste bank material to be tested is disturbed as little as practicable.
4. A Voxlermoisture-density gauge or equivalent shall be used to determine the density
of the waste bank where the cut was made. The test shall begin two feet below the
existing grade and shall be made on two foot intervals until reaching the bottom lift.
5. The test locations, procedures, and data shall be monitored by a licensed
professional engineer or his representative.
6. During the testing process, if it is determined that the material being tested has or
may have a dry density different than those previously measured, samples may be
taken so analysis may be performed. If samples are taken to re-examine the dry
density, test results of the entire test performed may be delayed by up to four weeks.
7. Once the tests have been completed and the results have been compiled, a report
written to review the results of the test shall be submitted to DMG.
