• Exhibit D •
INITIAL FACE WORK:
Mining will begin on the bench starting at the northwest corner of area 61, where
the currently disturbed area is located. The area around the existing pits will be
stripped of recoverable topsoil and overburden (to be placed in stockpiles on the
plant area P1), and the existing irregularly-shaped excavations expanded into a
more regular shape approximately 350 feet wide. Stripping of approximately 1
foot of topsoil material and 4 feet of overburden will be followed by digging of
sand and gravel starting at a depth of 12 feet and expanding to an average of 40
feet as mining moves to the west and reaches the top of the bench. The stripping
will be at least ten feet ahead of the working face except at the edges of the
property and the buffer zones, in order to protect topsoil from erosion loss.
Mining may be done in several lifts to reduce face height.
STOCKPII.E CONSTRUCTION:
Overburden and topsoil will either be stockpiled or moved immediately to backfill
and reclamation areas. As much as possible, overburden and topsoil will be
stockpiled immediately adjacent to the working face or transferred directly to
areas being reclaimed. Stockpiles of raw and processed materials, and for some
overburden and topsoil, will be located in the Plant Areas. As shown on Map C-
2, there will be a "Plant Area" for each stage.
There will be one long-term stockpile area developed, see Exhibit D-1, of
approximately 600 by 300 feet (4.1 acres). This stockpile will be located in the
current affected bench area along the northwest corner of B1 and will be
developed as mining to the east and south provides an area for the stockpile
and material to be stockpiled. During the mining of area 61, approximately
97,000 bank CY (107,000 CY placed) of overburden will be generated, of which
38,000 CY will backfill 61, 47,000 CY will backfill areas F1 and P1, and the
remaining 22,000 CY will be used to backfill areas F2 and P2. Since the backfill
of area B1 will commence prior to stripping all of area B1, an area of
approximately 300 by 400 will be used for the overburden stockpile, capable of
holding 69,000 CY (50 foot maximum height). Topsoil will be stored in one or
two stockpiles of up to 100 by 300 feet, with a maximum height of approximately
17 feet, each capable of holding about 8,000 CY of topsoil.
STOCKPILE AREA
Area (acres) Size Type Period of Period of Use of material
Volume material use removal
2.8 (300x400) 69,000 CY overburden Year 1-18 Year 9-18 Backfill B1, F1, P1
(OBSP)
0.7 (300x100) 8,000 CY topsoil Year 1-19 Year 4-19 Reclaim 61, P1
(TSSP)
0.7 (300x100) 8,000 CY topsoil Year 5-16 Year 9-16 Reclaim B1, F1
(TSSP)
Trans-Colorado Concrete October 99
Application for Permit: Spotted Burro Pit Page 9
