An area of 1.0 to
1.5 acres will be opened and actively mined at any one time. Stripping of one
foot of topsoil and 2 feet of overburden will be followed by mining of up to 12
feet, which is above the usual water table. The stripping will be at least ten feet
ahead of the working face except at the edges of the property and the buffer
zones, in order to protect topsoil from erosion loss. Overburden and topsoil will
be generally be moved immediately to backfill and reclamation areas after the
initial stockpiling.
SURFACE WATER MANAGEMENT:
Temporary water diversion structures will be constructed to divert water from active
mining areas and to reclamation and long-term stockpile areas. The drainage from the
active mining areas will be controlled and treated as required by water quality
Trans-Colorado Concrete October 99
Application for Permit: Spotted Burro Pit Page 10
