1997
In 1997 we transplanted some mature trees from the Roberts quarry mining area over to the Rex
quarry. The success rate was 0%.
Hand scattering seeds has had the best success rate.
Over burden materials up until late 1991 were pushed down hill off of the limestone in big stockpiles
and then later loaded into haul trucks with a front end and hauled back to the areas that had been mined
out and stockpiled. in 1991 some contouring of the stockpiles was started.
Listed below are the acreages that have been reclaimed and what methods were used
Rea Quarry ReclamaNou:
1993
1.42 acres East of the Fine grind plant: Shot rock overburden materials were hauled to this area,
contoured and hydra seeded in the spring of 93. No fertilizer or soil amendments were used on this
area. The grasses were some what slow to get started do to dry conditions. This area has more grass
cover every yeaz. Today the Success to looks to be about 70% to 75% cover.
1995
1.79 acres southeast of the north road cut :Shot rock over burden materials were hauled to tlvs area
contoured and hydra seeded in the fall of 1995. No fertilizer or soil amendments were used on this
azea. The grasses were slow to start in this area do to very dry conditions. Success looks to be about
40% and may need some additional soil aznendmenu and seed.
.10 acres at the south boundary line of the Rea quarry bordering the north boundary of the Owl
Canyon Quarry:
Shot rock over burden materials were hauled to this area, contoured sloping west and north. Beet dirt
was spread across the top of this area at a average depth of 2" to 6". This area was drill seeded and
crimped with a hay mulch in the fell of 1995. Success rete today looks to be about 75%.
1997
1.55 acres south of the 1.79 acres that was reclaimed in 1995 and still south of the north road cut:
Shot rock over burden materials were hauled to this area, contoured sloping west. Some topsoil combined
with beet dirt was spread over the top of this area averaging 2" to 6" in depth. This area was drill seeded
and crimped with a hay mulch in the spring of 1997. No fertilizers or soil additives were used on this
area. Success looks to be about 75%.
1998
4.32 acres to the east, north and south of the 1.55 acres seeded in 1997: Sho[ rock over burden
materials were hauled to this azea and contoured. Beet dirt was spread across this area at depths avemging
2" to 6". Tbis area was drill seeded in the spring of 1998. No fertilizers or soil additives were used on this
area. The Success rate is too early to tell. A lot of weeds have grown in this area and will be sprayed to
control them for next years growth.
