In the 70's some small test plots
were developed to try transplanting some of the pinion pine trees. These test plots had a 0% success
rate.
A test plot was developed at the Roberts quarry where pinion pine seeds were just hand scattered over
the area. Today this area has pinion pine trees varying in siu from 6" to 6'.
1993
In 1993 a test plot was developed north of our lab trailer to transplant small trees. We have transplanted
at least 50 trees in this test plot over the years. Today their are only two trees still growing.
1995
In 1994 a small test plot planter was builtjust south of Colorado Liens Lab/office trailer. Tn one half of
the planter we filled it with just sandstone materials and transplanted small pinion pine trees and some
evergreen trees. !n the other half of the planter we filled with beet dirt and manure. We transplanted
small pinion pine trees and some evergreen trces. We made sure these trees all had plenty of water.
The success of the pinion pine trees today is 0%. We have three of the evergreen trees still growing.
+..
a
~~
