Planning Commission
Mesa County Commissioners
14 May 1992
Page 2
4) Dust: The dust from the pit and the [ruck traffic is extremely bad. It
creates serious health problems for many of us who have allergies. My daughter
is 12 and suffers from severe dust allergy. Her problem has continued co
vorsen, and she is now on regular medication for this. idith the proposed
continuation of [he piC, the dust and Eumes will be intolerable to many of
us. We have neighbors who breathe using oxygen tanks!
The dust also seriously damages the farm crops as I am sure you are aware.
5) Resale Value of Our Property: How can one possibly imagine having a beautiful
home built in the country with all the amenities like many of us did, and
then have something like this happen. This is truly a slap in the face co
many of us. We moved out to the country for a reason, acid it was NOT to be
invaded by industry!.
5) Violations incurred by Parkerson: [Jhv has this business been allowed
co violate the laws in so many ways??? `lone of us can figure this one out.
a. Irrigation System - There may be an irrigation system on Parkerson's
land, but it is no[ in use. The roads are not watered down. It becomes a
^ajor dust bowl.
b. Running stop signs - Yes, the trucks do speed and do run the stop signs,
risking near-collision with oncoming vehicles. lde have seen this happe^. on
numerous occasions, even after they are warned time and again about this.
A day later, we are back to the same old thing again.
c. Hauling nn the wrong roads - The trucks are hauling not only nn C.
Road but also go up 31 3/4 Road as well.
d. All kinds of [rash and various backfill is being hauled in to the pit.
It has become an eyesore.
e. No shoulders on the narrow roads - This is so dangerous. Tractors,
sprayers, joggers, farm machinery, bikers go along these roads. Must we be
forced to jump in the ditch to avoid these huge trucks?? We have no choice.
f. The land has not been reclaimed. It has been stripped and left. The
topsoil has been hauled out too.
Please, we urge you to come and take a look for yourselves. Why have these
laws not been enforced. Why are you "ignoring" this situation? I invite
any of you to spend even one day at my house and live through this drastic
change which idE ARE NOW FORCED TO LIVE WITH. The thought of putting up with
this situation any longer is just unbearable. Kant' of my neighbors ar? tired
of this and simply want to give up --- we cannot do that because we must fight
for what is right and correct and just.
[de are the people who voCed you in to
behalf and do not alloy this proposal
that you will support the majority of
represent us. Please speak up on our
to go through!!! We strongly believe
the people and NOT let Chis pass.
This is respectfully submitted,
s
Liana Basham
303 - 31 3/4 Road
Crand Jct., CO 81503
and Jerr T. asham
Phone: 434-3665
