The soil and subsoil are so shallow that they cannot be removed separately. The
homogenous mixture to be saved in Zone 2 will be stripped to reveal stone to be mined.
The soils will be seeded as needed when new material is added.
Tlie pit floor at the final level will be graded at final slope of 2-4%.
The current access road for the power line is near the northwest comer of the
leased area and the new access road will be under the new power line location along
the edge of the pit. This road is depicted on the mining plan map.
The existing plan for the 1 10 permit will be used regarding seed and rate per
acre. Seeding will be done in the fall for best germination results. No park service
permit has been required since the technical revision as it was considered by the Park
Service to be redundant considering the County and State permitting requirements. It
was decided that seed was available through normal suppliers as suggested by the Soil
Consservation Service to hold the soil until the native seed took over.
All roads will be ripped, soiled, and seeded on final completion with the
exception of the power line access road, which will be graded and graveled.
Stockpiled soil will contain native seed and will hasten the rehirn of original vegetation.
There are fences along the highway right-of--way and the west side of the pit
area. No livestock has been on this property for many years and none are expected.
Humans are already exposed to 80' to 100' near-vertical highway cuts and natural cliffs
on the south, east and west sides of the pit.
The previous NPS permit is not still in effect.
Exhibit F -Reclamation Map. The area in yellow to be near horizontaly leve120'
wide benches tipped toward canter of the pit at approximatly 2% to break up drainage
patterns. These benches will be at about 40' vertical intervals. Settlement areas and
ditches are marked. White and blue areas are to be revegetated. Green area will be left
undisturbed.
