foundation is also portable.
Tlie face to be mined near tl~e top of the ridge will be mined from the north so all
disturbed areas will drain toward the pit floor, The only offsite disturbance would be
minimal fly-rock during blasting operations. Witli the face pointing north, very little
fly-rock to the south, west or east would occur. All materials will fall below the shot
face before dozing and loading operations occur.
Exhibit E -Reclamation Plan
Organic material is vegetation stripped with subsoils on the granite stone. Seed
will be the mix listed on the 110 permit as suggested by Jolm Scott at SCS.
Cutslopes or benches are not to be topsoiled or revegetated.
I fig«red to do two or tluee small settlement areas each fall to catch sediment
along the edge of the current drainage of the storage area of Zone 4. These small catch
basins will move as work progresses and will end up on the final level at the bottom
edge of the benched area. Size will be a lowered area of 25' to 30' in length along the
drainage ditch. The two outlets mentioned are currently existing -- one on each side,
north and south of Zone 3 joining at the northeast comer of Zone 3. The other drainage
runs along Zone 4 at the 7,570 level and ponds at the north end of the pit where Zones
4 and 2 meet. The other settlement area is southeast of the truck scales.
Benches are not to be topsoiled or seeded as they will be solid stone and benches
will be used to slow the velocity of spring drainage water.
I accept your suggestion about establislunent of reclamation vegetation. All
subsoil will be saved but is expected to amount to only about 5,500 cubic yards. We
will save another 5,500 cubic yards of decomposed granite and weathered West Elk
Breccia. A mix of these has proven to be prolific with local plant life. This amount
will provide approximately 4" of cover which should be adequate to revegetate. The
cost saved by not ripping bedrock should more than cover the cost of moving and
placing cover in the larger quantity. Final use changed to open range pasture. Tl~e
1984 file topsoil has been saved. Other areas of the new permit are less abundant in
soils and subsoils. Subgrade blasting of about two feet will be done on the final level
which will allow for better root systems and moisture retention.
Drainage grades are expected to be 3% to 5% on final level. Sediment ponds are
to be lowered areas 25' to 30' in length along drainage dips.
<3
