intended as phases but as vertical steps so that the 200 vertical feet can be mined in
stages to gradually lower the core of the Irorseslroe in safer vertical steps and if level
area is available, material is to be stored in Zones 3 and 4. However, if necessary,
material and processing could be done on upper levels as more areas are leveled.
There is approximately a 200 foot difference in elevation between the highest area to be
left at the top of the ridge and the elevation of current Zone 3. Tlris will create only
five total benches top to bottom. The benches will nm approximately level
horizontally. They will be tipped slightly to the center of the pit at approximatly 2% so
that runoff will spill gently all along the bench. The nmoff will not be gathered until it
reaches the mining level where it can be diverted as required while mining is in
progress. It will be gathered at the bottom of the slope when mined out in a horseshoe
shape and brought to settlement areas in the same vicinity they are currently along with
new ones shown on the reclamation map.
The powerline will need to be moved about halfway through the operation. The
cost is to be covered by Gunnison Gravel. We have spoken with Gunnison County
Electric Association about the evenhial removal and re-alignment. Their suggestion
was to move the line to the west boundary of the site then turn due east and follow the
northern boundary until it meets the existing line at the 7,545 level. We will leave a
road along the western and northern boundary for access to the powerline. Some
shorter islands may exist before the line is moved.
All roads will be within the 33.16 acre leased area.
Washing, concrete, or asphalt hatching will be done in Zone 3 or 4 until the
7,570 level expands west and south. Crushing, however, may occur wherever enough
level work area esists.
C~urently water containment is done in tanks, however, if settling ponds might be
required in the future they would probably occur in Zone 4 or possibly Zone 3. As the
7,570 level grows west and south, settling ponds could be placed inside the horseshoe
drainage ditch. These ponds would be a minimum size as required by the State of
Colorado.
The fuel tanks shown in the old permit area have been removed several years
ago. The scales and scale house remain. Less than 100 gallons of oil will ever be
stored on site and it will be safely inside the dry van storage trailer. No bulk fi~el will
be stored on site. Mobile skid tanks will be used only when portable equipment is
being used on site. Otherwise service trucks will fuel mobile equipment. The scales
and scalelrouse are portable and can be loaded with a small crane. The scale
