• 2.0 AS-BUILT TOPOGRAPHY
The evaporation system was built according to the intent of the design report. The procedures
outlined in the construction specifications (BMRI, 1999) were followed for design modification
during construction. The total lined azea of the holding pond and evaporation azea is
approximately 9.9 acres.
2.1 Holding Pond Embankment
The embankment of the holding pond was constmcted according to the specifications presented
in the design report. The embankment has a top width of 10 feet and will serve as an access road
for maintenance vehicles. Compaction testing of fill placed in the embankment is discussed in
Section 4.1. The side slopes for the upstream and downstream sides of the embankment were
designed to be not steeper than 3H:1V and 2H:1V, respectively. The as-built slopes of the
embankment aze approximately 4.SH:1V or flatter for the upstream side and 3.SH:1V or flatter
for the downstream side. The as-built embankment crest elevation is nominally 8608 feet, as
• designed. The lowest point of the embankment, based on the as-built survey, was 8,607.4 feet.
2.2 Holding Pond
The bottom and top elevations of the holding pond aze nominally 8600 feet and 8608 feet,
respectively. The embankment forms the exterior wall of the pond, while the interior wall is
excavated into the evaporation area. The total storage capacity of the pond is approximately 3.1
million gallons to the lowest embankment crest elevation. The operating pond volume, leaving
one-half foot of elevation for freeboazd, is approximately 2.7 million gallons.
2.3 Evaporation Area
The evaporation area is approximately 7.4 acres, with a variable width of 300 to 500 feet and an
overall bottom slope of approximately 1.6 percent. The constructed area provides a lined surface
to collect over-spray and enhance evaporation. Placement and compaction of fill to create the
foundation of this azea is discussed in Section 4.1
•
Battle Mountain Resources, /nc. L Augusi 10. 1999
