Soil Replacement

Topsoil will be replaced on the disturbed areas to a depth ranging
from about four to eight inches (average of about six inches).
Seed Bed Preparation and Fertilization
Prior to reseeding, areas disturbed by the operation will be disced or
similarly worked, depending on the voliare of rock in the soil, in order to
provide for an adequate seed bed
Fertilizer will be applied as noted
below.
Seed Mixture and Seedinc Rates
The proposed seed mixture for seeding disturbed areas consists of a
diverse mixture. The species were selected, in part, on the basis of
current vegetation present on the site, review of data for range seeding
trials; and discussions with SCS and NPS personnel (Leonard Jurgens, State
Conservationist, SCS; Wendell Hassell, Plant Materials Specialist, National
Park Service (formerly with the state office of the SCS), and the local
office of the Soil Conservation Service. The current availability of of
various plant materials was then considered.
The proposed mixture appears below. Seeding rates are based on a
critical area planting density of 40 pure live seeds (PLS) per square foot
(drilled rate).
RECLAMATION SEED MIXTURE
Drilled Rate
Species ~ of Mix Pounds PLS/Ac.
Galleta (Viva) 10 1.1
Indian Ricegrass (Nezpar) 15 1.4
Streambank Wheatgrass (Sodar) 10 1.1
Thickspike Wheatgrass (Critana) 15 1.7
Western Wheatgrass (Arriba) 10 1.6
Russian Wildrye (vinall) 10 1.0
Crested Wheatgrass (Nordan) 5 0.5
-9-
