BATTLE MOUNTAIN RESOURCES Page 101
San Luis Project Te:hnical Spccif¢auons
10.0 RECLAMATION AND REVEGETATION
10.1 General Requirements
The Contractor shall furnish, transport and place all materials required to reveg:etate all areas
disturbed during the construction activities and reclaimed areas as described herein. Areas to be
reclaimed must be prepared by grading and shaping to achieve smooth surfaces •Nhich will not
concentrate or pond storm runoff and create long-term erosion concerns.
Topsoil shall be placed over subsoils which have been ripped to a depth of six inches
immediately prior to topsoil placement to promote mixing and adhesion of the topsoil to the
subsoils. In the case of ameliorated subsoils, topsoil shall be placed shortly aft~;r the subsoils
have been amended. Loose faces of slopes shall be "walked" with a dozer to partially compact
the surfaces prior to placing topsoil.
Seedbed prepazation for areas to be revegetated will take place after grading, stabilization, and
topsoil placement will include:
1. Compacted surfaces will be loosened and left in rough condition by ripping, disking,
or other mechanical means. Loose erodible surfaces may need to be "dozer-tracked"
to prevent sloughing before amendments, seed, and mulch are applied.
2. The soils will be tested at the time of reclamation for fertilizer. If nece:~sary, fertilizer
will be applied in the amount and rate specified by the tests. The fertilizer will be
evenly spread using a minimum of equipment passes to prevent compaction.
3. The prepared surfaces will then be seeded using the mixtures and seeding rates
recommended in the following section. Seeding will either be by ran.~eland drill or
broadcasting, depending on working area and steepness of slope.
4. Hay or other protective mulch will be applied, if necessary, and crirrlped. Erosion
control practices and BMP's will be implemented as necessary during on-going
reclamation activities.
Reclamation activities will occur [o take advantage of optimal climactic conditions. Following
are general scheduling procedures to be followed:
1. Grading and drainage control establishment and maintenance will be conducted in
mid to late summer;
N:\DNALLMAN\SANLUIS~SANLUIS.DOC 10-I SRK Project No. 147J2
