Seeds will be planted in mid to late fall to take advantage of winter and spring <br />moisture. If seeding cannot be completed in the fall, the alternative season is early to <br />mid spring for seeding in this region. <br />When conditions are such by reason of drought, excessive moisture, frozen soil .}r when in the <br />opinion of the Designer or Construction Inspector less than satisfactory results are likely to be <br />obtained, seeding work shall be halted as directed and resumed only when ;.onditions are <br />favorable or when approved altemative or corrective measures and procedures have been <br />effected. <br />The Contractor is to proceed with complete seeding work as rapidly as portions of the site <br />become available, working within seasonal limitations. In any event, seeding shall be <br />accomplished before the prepazed seed bed becomes eroded, crusted over or dried gut or the seed <br />bed must be re-prepared prior to seeding. At no time shall seed be sown, drilled or otherwise <br />planted when the surface soil or topsoil is in a frozen or crusted state or during periods of windy <br />weather. <br />Seeding at any time other than within the specified seasons shall be allowed only when ordered <br />by the Designer or when the Contractor submits a written request for permission to do so and <br />permission is granted. In the request, the Contractor must agree to apply the specified seed and <br />mulch at a rate of not less than 25 percent greater per unit area than the rates specified for use <br />within the seeding season. The additional materials shall be furnished and placed at the <br />Contractor's expense. The Contractor must also agree to re-seed, re-mulch and repair any azeas <br />seeded out-of-season which fail due to wind, erosion, lack of germination, and/or 3isturbance by <br />the Contractor or his forces a[ no expense to the Owner. Where out-of-season seeding is ordered <br />by the Designer, the cost of additional material if required will be paid for by the Owner, and in <br />this event, the Contractor will not be held responsible for damage or failure beyond his control <br />due to out-of-season seeding. <br />N:\DHALLMAN~SANLUIS~SANLUIS.DOC 102 SRK Projec~No. 147}2 <br />
