BATTLE MOUNTAIN RESOURCES Page 9-5 <br />San Luis Project Tee;hnical Specifications <br />The foundation surface shall be completed to the lines and grades shown on the Drawings or as <br />established in the field by the Designer. Site preparation shall conform to the provisions of <br />Section 4.0 of these Specifications. Foundation preparation shall provide a surface free of <br />stumps, stones, boulders, rocks, frozen clods or similar objects. Bedding Material Type 1, <br />specified in Section 6.2 of these Specifications, shall be placed loosely in a 4-inch lift for soil <br />foundations and in a 6-inch lift for rock foundations. <br />After the pipe is placed on [he bedding material, [he backfill material will be workt;d to eliminate <br />voids azound the pipe. Care shall be taken to insure that compaction between the corrugations is <br />competed in accordance with Section 6.12.2 these Specifications. Material Types 1 or 2 shall be <br />placed as backfill up to the pipe springline and to a minimum of I-ft above the top of the pipe. <br />Compaction of Material Types 1 and 2 shall be accomplished by hand-operated compaction <br />equipment as approved by the Designer. Compaction and moisture content specifications for <br />Material Types 1 and 2 shall be in accordance with Section 6.11.2 of these Speci!ica[ions. The <br />remainder of the trench is to be backfilled with Material Type 10 (includes Material Types 1 or <br />2). Compaction requirements for Material Type 10 aze defined in Section 6 11.5 of these <br />Specifications. Any damaged pipe shall be repaired or replaced by the Contractor, as specified <br />by the Designer, at the Contractor's expense. <br />The upstream end of the culvert shall connected to a 18-inch x 24-inch blind tee section which <br />will extend vertically upward 3.25 feet above the pipe centerline. The 2.75-ft extension shall be <br />perforated at 6-inch vertical intervals with six 2-inch diameter holes spaced equally around the <br />circumference (60° angles) of the 24-inch pipe. Perforation shall begin three inches above the <br />ground surface and continue to a distance not less than six inches from the top of the pipe. The <br />top of the pipe shall be covered with ananti-vertex device as shown in the Drawings. The tee <br />section shall also extend vertically downward 1.25 feet from the pipe centerline and be encased <br />in concrete, as shown in the Drawings, to provide lateral stability and protection against uplift. <br />A prefabricated Hazed polyethylene end section shall be installed at the pipe discharge. The <br />flared section shall be securely connected to the pipe outlet in accordance with manufacturer's <br />specifications. <br />Erosion protection downstream of the culvert shall extend from the end of the flared section. <br />The material type and extents of the revetment are shown in the Drawings. Rows of earthen <br />water bars and bales of hay shall be installed between the ripraped outlet and the stream to <br />encourage sheet flow.
