BATTLE MOUNTAIN RESOURCES Page 6-8
San Luis Project Technical Specifications
uniformly on both sides of [he conduit. The thickness of each layer shall not exceed six inches
before compaction to the required density.
Material Type 1 shall be placed loosely as a bedding for the West Pit Culvert. The selected
material shall be placed to a minimum of 4 inches for soil foundations and [o a minimum of 6
inches for rock, hardpan or other unyielding foundations.
Type 2 material, used as general backfill for the West Pit Culvert, shall be placed to 12 inches
above the top of the culvert and shall be compacted to approximately the density of the
surrounding earth. The thickness of each layer shall not exceed eight inches before compaction
to the required density.
Type 2 material, used for the fill sections of the spillway or in the exterior berms (roadway above
West Pit Culvert), shall be compacted to 95 percent of the maximum dry density (ASTM D 698)
at minus 2 percent to plus 3 percent of optimum moisture content. In the event fluctuations in
the fill material aze observed during placement, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation rapid compaction
test procedures may be adopted until moisture-density data as per ASTM D 698 becomes
available.
6.12.3 Riprap Materials
Material Types 4, 5 6, and 9 riprap materials shall be placed in a dense configuration by
trafficking with a smooth drum roller, track mounted equipment or lazge track hoe bucket and
subject to the Designer's approval. Alternative means for achieving a dense configuration, such
as hand placement, may be adopted but aze subject to the approval of the Designer. The final
surface of riprap lined slopes or channels shall be free of individual stones v+hich protrude
significantly above adjacent stones and must meet [he approval of the Designer.
6.12.4 Type SMaterial - ltiprap Bedding
Type 8 material used as bedding beneath the reclaimed tailings spillway shall be compacted by
repeated passes of track mounted equipment or vibratory rollers. Compaction of Type 8 material
shall meet the approval of the Designer.
N \DHALLMAMSANLUIS~SANLUIS.DOC o-n SRK Prolec~ No. 14732
