BATTLE MOUNTAIN RESOURCES Page 5~2 <br />San Luis Project Ta:hnical Specifications <br />shall be sloped to drain so that erosion is limited to the greatest extent practicable and no ponding <br />develops from direct precipitation and runoff Final cut slopes in borrow areas shall have a <br />smooth regular surface free of all drop-offs. <br />5.1.4 Ezcess Excavation <br />All necessary precautions shall be taken to preserve the material below and beyond the lines of <br />excavation in the soundest possible condition. Excess excavation and over-excavation shall be <br />refilled with compacted materials meeting applicable requirements and furnished and placed to <br />the satisfaction of the Designer at the Contractor's expense. Unless otherwise slecified, over- <br />excavation within bedrock shall be backfilled with lean concrete, secured with d~?wels or other <br />suitable means, to return to grade, which is placed to the satisfaction of [he Designer. Excess <br />excavation required for pipe installation shall be backfilled with the specified bedding material to <br />the specified thickness. <br />5.1.5 Disposal of Excavated Materials <br />Excavated materials that are unsuitable for construction as determined by the Designer, or aze in <br />excess of permanent construction requirements, shall be wasted. Waste pile locarions proposed <br />by the Contractor shall be subject to the Owner's and/or Designer's approval. <br />Tailings materials generated from required excavations which are in excess of construction <br />requirements or unsuitable for construction must be placed in waste piles located within the <br />limits of the current tailings aeeas. The location and configuration of any tailings waste piles <br />shall be subject to the Designer's approval. Placement of the tailings waste will nog: interfere with <br />the natural flow within storm drainage areas. The waste piles will neither detract horn the <br />appeazance of the completed project nor interfere with the accessibility of the various parts of the <br />site. Waste piles shall be graded and trimmed to a reasonably regular lines and stable slopes and <br />reclaimed in accordance with Section 10 of these Specifications. <br />Excavations for the required facilities may expose foreign substances, debris, piping, or <br />equipment related to previous mining activity at the site. This material, if encountered, should be <br />disturbed as little as possible prior to ascertaining the nature of said material. The Construction <br />Inspector and Designer should be notified immediately upon encountering any foreign matter <br />within required excavations.
