BATTLE MOUNTAIN RESOURCES Page 5-I <br />San Luis Project Te_hnical Speci ficalions <br />5.0 EXCAVATION AND GRADING <br />5.1 General <br />5.1.1 Scope of Work <br />The excavations to be perfornied include but are not limited to stripping and gru(~bing; removal <br />of topsoil; shaping; grading and required excavations for completion of berm cuts, spillways, <br />access roads, trenches and borrow areas. <br />The Contractor shall be solely responsible for determining the excavation potential of soil and <br />rock materials, water table conditions, and other pertinent subsurface information. <br />For excavations in rock, the Contractor shall submit a Rock Excavation Plan prior to initiation of <br />the work. This plan must fully describe the proposed manner of excavation, excavation <br />sequencing and procedures for finish cuts. <br />5.1.2 Handling of Materials <br />The Contractor shall use only the materials obtained from required excavations which meet <br />applicable Specifications, except as allowed by the Designer. Such materials miry be placed in <br />the designated final locations direct from the excavation, or may be placed in temporary <br />stockpiles and subsequently placed in the final location as approved by the Designer. The <br />Contractor shall perform excavation operations so as to facilitate stockpiling anc rehandling of <br />excavated material as required. <br />5.1.3 Cuts and Slopes <br />The Contractor shall inspect all temporary and permanent open-cut excavations on a regulaz basis <br />for signs of instability. All excavations shall be in accordance with current OSHP, requirements. <br />Should signs of instability be noted, the Contractor shall undertake remedial measures <br />immediately and shall notify the Designer as soon as possible. It will be the Contractor's <br />responsibility to remove all loose material from the excavation slopes and to maintain the slopes <br />in a safe and stable condition at all times during the progress of the work. Required procedures <br />may include pumping, bailing, draining, sheeting, and bracing. <br />Final spillway cut slopes shall be no steeper than 1H:1 V in rock materials, and 2H I V in all other <br />cuts unless otherwise approved by the Designer (vertical cuts may be allowed in rock).
