N
Phase 2 & 3
N
Phase 2 & 3 dewatering: During these phases groundwater will be diverted via pit dewatering
and/or the groundwater collection trench to the dewatering silt pond (see location of silt pond on
mining map, Exhibit C) and then gravity fed to the west recharge pond. If the capacity of the
west recharge pond is being exceeded groundwater will also be diverted to the Boxelder Ditch.
Phase 2 & 3 monitoring program:
1. Piezometers will be monitored monthly.
2. A staff gauge will be installed in west recharge pond and the water level will be recorded
monthly along with the piezometer readings.
3. A measuring device will be installed on the trench system diverting water into the west
recharge pond to measure the quantity of water being diverted into the recharge pond. Flows
to be measured monthly.
4. The monitoring program during this phase will be specifically aimed at identifying any
problems with the recharge capacity of the west recharge pond. The monitoring program is
as follows:
a) A relationship will be established during the first three months of operation in Phase 2
between 1) the water level in the west recharge pond and the water level in piezometer
P6. Example: if during the firs[ three months the water levels in west recharge pond
range from 0.5-0.8 feet higher than the water level in piezometer P6, the largest elevation
difference during the three months, 0.8 feet, will become the recorded elevation
difference (RED) between the west recharge pond and piezometer P6.
b) A maximum elevation difference (MED) between [he west recharge pond and piezometer
P6 will be calculated as the (RED) plus I.0 feet. If the (MED) is exceeded DMG will be
notified. (example: continuing the example from item 4a., if the elevation difference
between the west recharge pond and piezometer P6 exceeds 1.8 feet (1.0 +0.8), DMG
will be notified).
c) After DMG has been notified, Connell Resources will review records from all nine
monitoring wells and submit a report to DMG within 30 days. The report will present an
analysis of [he groundwater elevation drop and a mitigation plan to restore [he
groundwater recharge to conditions present at the beginning of Phase 2.
Phase 4
Phase 4 dewatering: During Phase 4 groundwater will be diverted via pit dewatering and/or the
groundwater collection trench to the dewatering silt pond and then gravity fed to the west
recharge pond. If the capacity of the west recharge pond is being exceeded groundwater will also
be diverted to the Boxelder Ditch. Install a head balancing pipe (min. 8 inch dia) between [he
two recharge ponds and install an overflow pipe from the east recharge pond to the Boxelder
Ditch. Monitor piezometer P7 daily and if the water level drops more than 1 foot during
excavation, then start diverting the water to the existing the drain, or the drainage culvert under
County Road 36.
