incorporate areas within which environmental monitoring does, or may, occur. As a
• result of this consolidation, several existing MLRB permits are now incorporated within
the boundaries of the disturbance of Permit M-80-244. These MLRB Permits include M-
81-050 (Dolly Varden/Rittenhouse), M-88-025 (Anchoria Leland), M-88-100 (Index), M-
90-110 (Midget), M-90-111 (Moon Anchor), and M-94-119 (Amanda). Inclusion in
Permit M-80-244 allows termination of these permits as the areas lie wholly within the
permit boundary for Amendment No. 8. One MLRB permit is still included within the
permit boundary of Amendment No. 8 (M-91-134, Cameron) but not part of the
disturbance. Because it is a construction materials permit obtained by CC&V to assist
the OMLR with its reclamation obligation at that site by removal of rock, CC&V will
continue to maintain this permit separately.
Amendment No. 8 also changes the size and location of certain operational
facilities as discussed in the following paragraphs. The mining and beneficiation
operations will continue to be conducted in a manner similar to that approved in
• Amendment No. 7.
Approximately 180 million tons of additional ore and/or potential ore has been
identified within or adjacent to some of the existing mine areas. The extended mine areas
aze part of this Amendment No. 8 and aze discussed in detail in Section 5.4. CC&V is
proposing to modify the existing crushing capacity to approximately 20 million tons per
yeaz. This will be accomplished by the installation of modified and upgraded crushing
facilities as discussed in Section 5.6. The current capacity of the VLF is permitted to 1 I S
million tons and additional capacity will be needed to provide for the additional identified
ore. Amendment No. 8 proposes to increase the depth of the existing VLF as well as to
extend the facility to the north and east in aeeas known as "Phase IV." The extension will
be constructed in the same manner as the approved VLF and is discussed in detail in
Section 6.0.
Overburden excavated to access additional ore will require an increase in the
• overburden storage capacity for the project. An estimated 360 million tons of overburden
