- s. ~ <br />Remarl~s: The site has been disturbed by construction of the stock <br />tanks and the buried fire hearth does not contain either datable artifacts <br />or charcoal. In all likelihood, this natural spring area served as a <br />temporary camping site for prehistoric and historic Indian groups. Hoxever, <br />utilization of such a locality at this altitude is to be expected and is <br />not unique. <br />No further archaeological investigations are deemed necessary for <br />Site 51',F'288. <br />Site Sr~290, Pictograph and possible campsite. <br />Location: TS N, R90~, SEA`- of SEq Section 6, Y,offat County (U.S.C,S. <br />Castor Gulch Quadrangle), in side canyon of Horse Gulch. <br />Site Description: Site consists of a single pictograph (indiscernable <br />•- in photograph x hich xas taken), 2 possible aul sharpening grooves, and some <br />burned rocks inside a small sandstone rock overhang. Burned stone is <br />unshaped and the sandstone bedrock is also reddened from Sire (see site <br />sketch). Site is at top of talus slope and faces south, Pond or spring <br />is 150 yards to southxest.
