topography. The northwestern boundary of the stockpile is 50 feet
or less from the haul-road centerline. To avoid any impingement of
the road and stockpile the latter could be moved southward and
extended northeast or southwest along the contour in either
direction.
4.4.2 Stockpile Area B. This area is in the north-central part of
sec. 8 about 1350 feet southwest of proposed Area A, and includes
about three acres.
Rock Tvoe. The long axis of this site trends across the
contact of a predominant shale unit on the north and predominant
sandstone unit on the south. Because of the nature of these two
rock types and the size of the area it is not anticipated that any
substantial difference will be observed in site preparation.
• Structure. This location is on the northeastern flank of the
Fish Creek anticline. Closest dip to the area is about 250-300 feet
to the northwest, and is N40w, 3°-10° NE. This strike and dip may
persist into the stockpile area.
Topography and Drainage. The area is oriented north-south
essentially parallel to the topography which slopes eastward at
about 190 (~5:1). No streams flow through or across this area.
Comments and Evaluation. The difference in bedrock types
underlying this area probably will not have any adverse effect on
its development for topsoil storage. If benches or keyways are cut
they should be oriented approximately N40-60E along the strike of
bedrock.
•
29
