Ms. Carol Pahlke
Mined Land Reclamation
April 30, 1979
(3) We cannot commit to the engineering design of either the road or the
ditch crossing at this tune. It is not required under the statute or
the rules and regulations.
(4) As far as we know, the range of overburden thickness will be reasonably
consistent throughout the area and will apply to all stages.
(5) On-site equipment is listed in paragraph 3, page 9. Available soils
will be scraped and segregated to the best of our ability. We cannot
and will not be tied down to a specific spot for soil storage. In
general, soils will be stored on the east side of the area shown for
overburden on map D-1.
(b) There will be no soil stripping from the area of the roads. We do not
deem it wise to strip an area that may be used for overburden stockpiles,
thus creating barren spots if they are not used.
(7) If you will return all Four D-1 maps, we will label the general area
used for stockpiling. It is the same area used for the office shack
and truck storage.
(8) Please refer to the last sentence on page 9 and on page 18. No. Water.
on clay makes it slick as a peeled grape.
(9) No. We operate.
F.xhihit F.
(1) (a) No. Consult with C.G.S.
(b) Pre-1973 overburden will not be used.
(2) No comments - see Exhibit G.
(3) We will not provide final design details at this time. We picture a
small excavation of approximately 1'~ feet deep and 1~ feeE wide with the
excavated material used to create the berm along the east side of the
excavated ditch. The ditch would be encountered first. This structure
would be created about 10 feet back from the west perimeter of the pit
in Stages 0, I and II.
(4) Since no construction is planned, compaction processes are not contem-
plated during the backfill process. Equipment movement over the backfill
should be sufficient to stabilize the area for the reclamation planned.
2
(5) Part of the area to be mined has no soil and some has as much as six inches.
We have said that "Soils will be used to cover areas to be revegetated to
a depth of at least six inches, as lon as soil materials last". If the
MLRB staff wishes to designate such areas, please advise. No soil will
be trucked into this desert-like location.
