Mule Creek Gravel ~nvirorunental Assessment • Page 19
' transplantable trees to phase one in random groupings on the
finished slope.
' ~ iii) The stockpile(s) will be located in azea(s) of minimal runoff and
disturbance from the gravel mining operations.
' iv) The topsoil stockpile will be handled as little as possible. If
relocation of a stockpile is required, the Forest Service and Mined
Land Reclamation Boazd will be contacted for approval by way of
a technical revision.
v) Stability of replaced topsoil will be assured by scarification and
' roughening of the final grade (before topsoil placement) to
minimize slippage.
' vi) Only suitable quality soil for vegetative growth will be stockpiled
and used in reclamation and will include the top existing surface
horizon(s).
vii) Topsoil will be replaced as evenly as practical. Soil testing will be
performed as needed on disturbed and undisturbed azeas of the
' forest. If necessary, slow releasing organic fertilizer, such as
"Biosol", will be applied to topsoil after placement at the following
' rate:
Nitrogen: 10 Ibs per acre
' Phosphate: 40 Ibs per acre
E. Revegetation:
' i) Revegetation of the disturbed area will aim at the reestablishment
of the conditions observed in the naturally occurring forest
' community of the surrounding azea. Only certified weed free
native seed will be used in the revegetation process
.
t ii) The final reclamation will have small groupings of trees
lanted from later phases of mining
trans
.
p
iii) Final slopes will not be too steep to be traversed by livestock or
' wildlife.
iv) Environmental factors such as seasonal patterns of precipitation,
' temperature and wind, soil texture and fertility, slope stability, and
direction of slope face aze considered in selection of vegetation
' species in regarding configuration design. There will be no
grazing allowed while the newly planted vegetation establishes
itself.

' H ydrosphere Resourcc Consultants, 1002 Walnut Suite 200, Boulder, CO 80702
