' Mule Creek Gravel environmental Assessment • Page 18
' • The project will comply with applicable Colorado water
laws and regulations regarding injury to existing water rights.
1 • The project will comply with applicable Federal and State
water quality laws and regulations.
1 • There will be no dredge and fill operations.
' • Any temporary ditches constructed across drainage ways
will be removed after the disturbed aeeas have been revegetated
and stabilized.
1 i i
i) Earthen dams may need to be constructed to control dra
nage as
mining proceeds.
' ili
d
i
l
l
iii) ze
,
nc
All surface areas will be stab
uding spoil pi
es, so as to
effectively control erosion.
' Wild
C lif
. e:
i) Operations and conditions in the gravel pit azea will have minimal
' impact on the wildlife. This area is not known to be used
exclusively for activities critical to the life cycles of wildlife that
' require special consideration.
ii) Upon the establishment and maturation of naturaliy occurring
vegetation, the habitat will be managed as it was before the
proposed activity was begun.
' D. Topsoil preservation:
i) Where present, topsoil will be removed prior to gravel mining and
stockpiled in a section of the phase area designated for stockpile
' storage. If stockpiled for more than a year, the topsoil (interim)
seed mixture will be applied during the growing season that
' follows stockpiling.
ii) After trees are harvested for firewood, the remaining shrubs, fortis
and tree limbs along with grasses will be chipped and incorporated
into the topsoil stockpile. Alternatively, the materials will be piled
(without being chipped) above the ]ay back slope to be pushed
downwazd onto the slope by a bulldozer. This larger material
' would provide greater slope stability, as material will key into
slope. The presence of larger woody debris better mimics a natural
forest condition. When the first phase is nearing completion;
' clearing will begin on the second phase. Work will be done
similar to phase one, with the exception of transplanting smaller,

' Hydrosphere Rcsourcc ConsulunLS, 1002 Walnut Suite 200, Boulder, CO 80302
