r 6
J• 18, 1985
Daniel's Pit 2
C. Farrell
In conclusion, the possible adverse effects on the powerline by
Daniel's Sand is considerably less than the possible adverse effects
produced by the presence of Academy Boulevard. By reducing the slope
above the powerpoles and creating a stable 3:1 slope to the east, if
anything, the possible adverse effects will be reduced over their
current condition. As is the case with the highway, this plan provides
for an improvement in the stability of valuable man-made structures
rather than increasing the risk.
Item 3 - Please illustrate the location of power poles/line on Map C.
RESPONSE: Although not specifically labelled, the poles are shown
on the map. These poles can be seen as pairs of small circles located
at regular intervals along a north/south line just east of Academy
Boulevard. They can be found in approximately the center of the
labelled 100' electric easement shown on Exhibit C.
Item 4 - Contrary to Exhibit D - Mining Plan, the topsoil stockpiles
are not shown on P1ap C. Please provide topsoil stockpile locations on
Map C.
RESPONSE: On Exhibit C a note is provided just above the map
legend which states that topsoil stockpiling will occur along the
perimeter of the approximate mining limit. On the map, one topsoil
stockpile is shown. It extends between the affected land boundary and
the permit boundary from just east of the Academy Boulevard and Drennan
Road intersection eastward along Drennan and then south part way around
the Muelheisen and Green property. This is a very old stockpile which
goes back many years. It was built there as a visual berm to shield the
view from the property to the north of Drennan Road.
Although we admit this is a rather unusual way to stockpile
topsoil, when the mining plan is considered it is about the only way to
stockpile topsoil economically and have it in the proper location for
use when the operation is completed. Any other method of stockpiling
would require a continual shifting of the stockpiles which is both very
expensive as well as not particularly healthy for the soil as each
movement causes further degredation.
Exhibit D - DlininQ Plan
Item 1 - Upon reviewing the Annual Reports submitted for this
operation, it seems that Phase Iw has been previously mined. Please
provide total acreages and location of:
a, land previously mined;
b. land reclaimed;
c. land to be mined; and
d. total affected land.
