5.4 Explosives and detonators will be transported in separate vehicles or separate on the same <br />vehicle by four (4) inches of hardwood or the equivalent. Explosives and detonators will be kept <br />separate until charging is started. <br />5.5 No other materials or supplies shall be placed on or in the cargo space of a vehicle carrying <br />blasting supplies unless they are of non-sparking nature and are used in the handling of the <br />blasting materials. <br />5.6 No passengers or other employees, other than the necessary attendants will be on or in a <br />vehicle containing blasting supplies. <br />VI. Use of Explosives <br />6.1 Containers of explosives must never be thrown or dropped <br />6.2 Smoking or open flames are prohibited within 50 feet of the blast area, powder truck or powder <br />magazine. Smoking is prohibited in the powder truck and powder magazine. <br />6.3 The blasting operations shall be under the direct control of the Drilling and Blasting Foreman <br />or a designated replacement. <br />6.4 Vehicles and personnel other than those necessary for supervision and charging the blast holes <br />shall not be permitted in the loading area. <br />6.5 The blasting crew will prepare the shot according to recommended and accepted practices and <br />• in compliance with federal safety regulations. <br />6.6 Proper loading will be insured by measuring hole depths and checking for wet holes. <br />6.7 Blast-hole loading will be suspended during electrical storms. <br />6.8 Only emergency handling and transporting of explosives is permitted during electrical storms. <br />6.9 All connections and tie-ins will be performed according to code and checked before tiring <br />occurs. <br />6.10 Only wooden or other nonsparking implements shall be used to punch holes in an explosive <br />cartridge. <br />6.11 Tamping poles shall be blunt and squared at one end and made of wood or non-sparking <br />material. <br />6.12 Explosives shall be kept separated from detonators until charging is started. <br />6.13 No tamping will be done directly on the primers. <br />6. t4 Delay connectors for firing detonating cord shall be treated and handled with the same safety <br />precautions as blasting tips and electric detonators. <br />6.15 Avoid stemming the blast hole with large rocks which may cut the detonating cord. <br />• 6.16 Blasting cap fuses and blasting caps will be secured to the primer or detonating cord in such a <br />manner that the caps cannot be pulled free. <br />
