B&8 Excavating, lnc. -Montgomery Grave! Pit Stormwater Management Plan

1

1

E.::::.::SPII:ti PREVENTION AND RESPONSE PROCEDURES
Page 9
The following spill prevention and response procedures will be implemented at the Montgomery
Gravel Pit operation. It should be noted that a SPCC Plan has also been prepared for this site.
Requirements of the SPCC, which may be modified from time to time, should also be
referenced.
1. Activities that could produce a spill, such as equipment refueling, will be
conducted within a containment area or specific area.
2. All petroleum products will be stored in double-walled, above ground storage
tanks to significantly reduce the risk of a prolonged spill.
3. Manufacturer's recommendations for spill cleanup will be clearly posted and site
personnel will be made aware of the procedures and the location of information
and cleanup supplies.
4. Materials and equipment necessary for spill cleanup will be kept on site.
Equipment and materials will include, but not be limited to, gloves, goggles,
brooms, dust pans, rags, kitty litter, sand, sawdust, and plastic and metal trash
containers specifically for this purpose.
5. All spills will be cleaned immediately after discovery.
6. Personnel will wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent injury from contact
with a hazardous substance.
7, Spills of toxic or hazardous materials will be reported to the appropriate state or
local government agency.
8. A method for handling petroleum contaminated soil, approved by the EPA, is to
add it to the aggregate mixture in the asphalt hot plant.
9. The SPCC Plan will be modified to provide management practices and comply
with governing regulations and laws on an on-going basis.
