Bac kfilling and Grading
The first major phase in the reclamation of disturbed land is backfilling and grading the
cut and fill areas. This process is also discussed in the Hackfillinq and Grading Plan
found in Tab 18.
The first step is the determination of volumes. Cross sections were developed in the zail
spur area with the aid of a computer program from SoftDesk (see Exhibit 18-2). Postmine
slopes were then superimposed on the diagrams. For the sake of continuity, it was
estimated that all material would be graded toward the railroad cut at slopes between
Sh:ly and lOh:ly when sufficient adjacent land was available. A digitizer was used to
balance the cut and fill volumes of material needed to create .he above-described
topography. This produced a final topography that could not only be revegetated, but
would also allow drainage to flow through the reclaimed area without impounding water.
The CDMG utilized the CIRCES Cost Estimation Software to determine dozer production. This
program utilizes information given in the Caterpillar Handbook. All tables and charts are
computerized to simulate production for track type equipment. See the various worksheets
in Attachment 23-1 for production and costs.
Zt is not anticipated that wheel type earttunovers will be needed to backfill the cut
areas. Sufficient material exists adjacent to the cut areas for backfill purposes.
Topsoil Replacement. Topsoil replacement volumes were based on the volume of material in
stockpiles as determined by the soil survey. The CIRCES Cost Ea timation Software was used
to estimate scraper production. Attachment 23-1 includes scraper production and coat
worksheets.
Topsoiling was broken down into two tasks: ij Topsoiling the approximately 9,200 feet of
spur track, north of the loop area (costs were also included fox support equipment and a
D10N dozer was used to push the topsoil off t:he side slopes for later distribution); 2)
topsoilinq the remaining loop track area and facilities areas including Haul Road 2.
CDMG assumed wheeled motor graders were used fox finish grade. The CIRCES Coat Estimation
Software was used to estimate motor grader production. Attachment 23-1 includes scraper •
production and coat aorksheeta.
TR-06 2 - Revised OS/OS
