Specifically, what is the density and <br />distribution of vegetation at the site. ~ How much topsoil is <br />gHow much waste rock or overburden is present? Describe the major components of the mining operation such a roads and <br />access routes, pit, and shop/maintenance. These components st be <br />located on Exhibit E - Map. <br />3. Specify the dimensions of any significant disturbances to the land <br />surface such as pit excavations, impoundments, river diversions, dikes, <br />etc.. <br />4. Specify the dimensions of any existing or proposed roads that will be <br />used for the mining operation. Describe any improvements net ssary on <br />existing roads and the specifications to be used in the const uction of <br />new roads. New or improved roads must be included as part of the <br />permitted acreage. <br />5. It appears that the mining operation will occur adjacent to a d possibly <br />within the Animas River channel. The operator needs to describe all <br />measures which are necessary and which will be taken to insur that <br />disturbances to the river water quality and aquatic habitats re <br />minimized. Please describe any dikes, settling ponds, plans or <br />limiting mining to "low water" times of year, equipment stora a away <br />from the river floodplain, seasonal grading, stabilization, g neral site <br />clean-up, and any other necessary measures. The operator sho ld contact <br />the Colorado Department of Health Water Quality Control Divis on to <br />inquire about compliance with Water quality standards related to this <br />type of operation. <br />Exhibit D - Reclamation Plan <br />The applicant anticipates that a reclamation plan is not required b cause the <br />excavated sand material will be replenished each year by the river. The staff <br />has the following concerns with this plan. <br />
