SHELTON, Dlreetor
DATE: February 10, 1987
T0: Mr. John Dillon
FROM: Patricia C. Martinek, Reclamation Specialist
RE: File No. M-86-165
Adequacy Items
The following items must be addressed by the applicant in order to atisfy the
applicable requirements of C.R.S. 34-32-101 et seq. Mineral Rules a d
Regulations of the Mined land Reclamation Board:
Application Form
1. On the application form, the applicant has stated that the pr'mary
future and present future land use is "sand" (Items 11 and 12 of
page 2). According to the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Ac Statute
34-32-102, lands affected by mining operations shall be recla'med to a
beneficial use. The staff feels that the site consists of a 'sand"
material and probably will be returned to "sand" once mining eases.
However, this description does not assess the beneficial use f the
land. The staff recommends that the present and future lan3 se of the
site should be revised to read "wildlife habitat". Please re pond
accordingly.
2. The operator states that the permitted area will incorporate
.~ approximately 6 acres. The staff recommends that the permitt d acreage
should be defined to the nearest 1/10 of an acre, i.e., 6.0 a res.
' Please respond accordingly.
Exhibit C - Mining Plan
The operator's mining plan consists of removal of sandy material fr m a sand
bar in the Animas River. Extraction will be done with a front end oader or
excavator, and material will be hauled directly away from the site. A maximum
of 5,000 cubic yards will be removed annually.
1. According to the Soil Conservation Service Range Condition In entory,
the list of plant species present at the site includes such g asses as
smooth brome, tufted hairgrass and bluegrass. The site also ontains
such shrubs and fortis as red stemmed dogwood, willows, rose, weet
clover, boxelder, and cottonwood.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203.2273 Tel.
