10/44 <br />• Gulnare series. <br />The Gulnare series consists of shallow, well drained soils on <br />hill slopes. These soils formed in colluvium and residuum derived <br />daminar~tly frr.~m sandstone. Slope is 5 to 50 percent. Average annual <br />precipitation is 17 to 23 inches, and average annual air temperature <br />is 42 to 4G degrees F. <br />These soils are loamy-skeletal, mixed, Lithic Eutraboralfs. <br />Typical pedon of Gulnare stony sandy loam, 5 to 35 percent <br />slopes, about ^c,500 feet south and 800 feet west of the northeast <br />corner- of sec. 1, T. 33 S., R. 67 W. <br />Oi--1 inch to 0; mat of needles and twigs. <br />E--0 to 3 inches; grayish brown (lOYR 5/2) stony sandy loam, very <br />dark grayish. brown (lOYR 3/2) moist; weak, fine granular structure; <br />loose, very friable, nonsticky and nonelastic; 2 percent stones, 5 <br />percent cobbles; neutral; abrupt smooth boundary. <br />Dt1--3 to 11 inches; brown (7.5YR 5/4) gravelly clay loam, dark <br />brown (7.5YR 4/4) moist; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; <br />hard, firm, sticky and plastic; 15 percent gravel; thin continuous <br />clay films an ped faces; neutral; clear smooth boundary. <br />8t2--11 to 15 inches; Strang brown (7.5YR 5/6) gravelly sandy <br />clay loam, strong brown (7.5YR 4/0) moist; moderate medium subangular <br />blocky structure; hard, firm, sticky and plastic; 15 percent gravel; <br />medium acid; abrupt wavy boundary. <br />Cr--15 to 17 inches; weathered sandstone. <br />R--17 to EO inches; hard sandstone bedrock. <br />• Reaction is neutral. A horizon: Texture is sandy loam ar stony <br />sandy loam. The horizon is 15 to 35 percent coarse fragments. Qt <br />horizon: Texture is gravelly sandy clay loam or gravelly clay loam. <br />Clay content is 18 to 35 percent. The horizon is 10 to 20 percent <br />coarse fragments.^ <br />
