• z/az
Dargol series.
The Dargol series consists of moderately deep, well drained soils
on mountain tops and side slopes. These soils formed in residuum
derived from shale. Slope is 3 to 45 percent. Average annual
precipitation is Ia to 22 inches, and average annual air temperature
is 42 to 45 degrees F.
These soils are fine, mixed, Typic Eutroboralfs.
Typical pedon of a Dargol stony loam in an area of Dargol-Fuera-
Vamer complex, 10 to 45 percent slopes, about 1,640 feet west and
2,240 feet north of the southeast corner of sec. 32, T. 34 S., R. 65
W.
02 2 01--1 inch to 0; partially decomposed and decomposed pine
needles and twigs.
E--0 to 5 inches; light gray (lOYR 7/2) stony loam, dark grayish
brown (lOYR 4/2) moist; moderate fine granular structure; slightly
hard, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; 30 percent
stones, 10 percent cobbles; medium acid; abrupt smooth boundary.
L't1--5 to 9 inches; grayish brown (lOYR 5/2) clay, dark grayish
brawn (lOYR 4/2) moist; weak coarse prismatic structure that parts to
moderate fine angular- blocks; extremely hard, very firm, very sticky
and very plastic; thin continuous clay films on ped faces; slighlly
acid; clear smooth boundary.
L't2--9 to 28 inches; grayish brown (2.5YR 5/2) clay, olive brown
(~.SY 4/4) moist; moderate very fine subangular blocky structure; very
• hard, firm, very sticky and very plastic; thin patchy clay films on
ped faces; slightly acid; clear wavy boundary.
R--28 to 60 inches; hard siltstone.
Depth to bedrock and thickness of the solum are 20 to 40 inches.
Thee control section is 5 to 20 percent rock fragments. Reaction is
slightly acid or medium acid. S horizon: Texture is clay or silty
clay. Hue is 7.5YR to 2.5YR.^
