Stormwater runoff will flow across the site toward the excavated pit or the detention ponds
within the processing azea that will act as settling basins for suspended solids. The excavations
will retain runoff from small storm events on-site.
Some channelization may need to be added during future mining phases in order to continue
collecting all runoff in the mining excavations. The stormwater conveyance improvements will
be described in future annual SWMP reports if they are constructed.
This site is located in the floodplain of the South Platte River. However, no problems associated
with sediment transport through the floodplain are expected to occur. Flood elevations in this
area are not expected to be impacted by this operation, as they are currently less than 2 foot deep
in a 100-year event.
Equipment used for the extraction and hauling of the aggregate will be stored on-site, near the
office azea. Daily equipment monitoring and maintenance will occur on-site. Major repair and
overhaul activities will be performed off-site. Periodically, a mobile service truck will be
brought on site to perform oil changes.
3.0 Potential Pollutant Sources/Material Inventory
Potential pollutants expected to be stored on-site would include but not be limited to, diesel fuel,
gasoline and small amounts of miscellaneous equipment fluids and oils. There will be three
diesel fuel tanks with the capacity for 20,000 gallons of fuel. Flocculents may also be used at
this site.
One pazking azea for both employee vehicles and the mining equipment will be located neaz the
office and shop. Additional pazking areas will be located near the asphalt plant, concrete plants
and the recycle plant. These areas will be gravel.
Haul routes within the site will be gravel or dirt, depending on their location, and can be
expected to be a source of potential pollution to stormwater runoff. The access road into the site
will be paved for a minimum of 100 feet.
Components of the asphalt batch plant will consist of approximately 10,000 gallons of emulsified
asphalt, approximately 25,000 gallons of ac cement and approximately 10,000 gallons of burner
fuel to operate the plant. Waste asphalt will also be used (recycled) at this plant. Waste oils
from the mining equipment at the site may be recycled and used in the production of asphalt.
The concrete batch plant consists only of the plant itself. Used or return concrete may be
recycled at the plant. Ad mixtures for the concrete will be stored adjacent to the plant on a
covered concrete pad.
No spills of significant quantities of any substance are known to exist at this site.
